We’re going to miss outgoing California Democratic Party chair John Burton.
He’s stepping down when his term ends this month following a spectacularly successful 8-year term that’s seen the party become, “more professional than it’s ever been in the history of the party,” according to California Governor Jerry Brown.
Thanks largely to John Burton’s leadership, and his amazingly skilled team of party staff, California Democrats hold all eight statewide offices, two-thirds supermajorities in the state Assembly and Senate, and 38 of California’s 53 seats in the U.S. House.
What’s more, in addition to the incredible results over his eight years and party chief, he’s done it all in his unique, frequently profane, style.
In his trademark guayabera shirt, he introduced Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) to the 2015 party delegates as, “the [expletive] champion of the American people.”
His style wasn’t just evident in person, he also requested possibly the best political press correction of the century which we can’t even print here. You’ll have to read it for yourself.
And, finally, who could forget his 2011 appearance on the Daily Show, wherein correspondent John Oliver pointed out that he, “… curse[s] more than a West Coast rapper.”
We here at DSPolitical would like to thank you so much for all you’ve done for California Democrats over the last eight years, Chairman. Our California office staff are particularly thankful for all you’ve done for California, and our D.C. staff couldn’t be more grateful for how you’ve helped California Democrats inspire Democrats across the country.
We know the party will be in great hands no matter who wins the election on Saturday, but we’re still going to miss you.
