Sean Carlson is a digital strategist with more than 15 years of experience helping advocacy organizations, campaigns, and public affairs firms translate complex goals into effective digital media strategies. A communications advisor and consultant, his work sits at the intersection of political communications, organizing, and digital advertising, where he partners with strategists, consulting firms, and advocacy leaders to turn campaign priorities into measurable digital impact.
Prior to joining DSPolitical, he founded Apollo Collaborative, a digital strategy and communications consultancy, and previously served as Chief Strategy Officer at Revolution Messaging and Senior Digital Director at FitzGibbon Media, helping lead national advocacy campaigns and digital communications programs. His work today focuses on helping advocacy organizations, campaigns, and consulting firms effectively leverage digital advertising to reach and mobilize key audiences.
Earlier in his career, Sean helped launch a national campaign to close youth prisons, served as chair of communications for the United for Marriage coalition during the landmark marriage equality cases in 2013, and was a teaching fellow at the New Organizing Institute.
Over the course of his career, Sean has worked with hundreds of clients including major nonprofit and advocacy organizations in the progressive movement, candidates at the local and statewide level, labor unions, mission-driven companies, and even the occasional A-list celebrity.
He is also a regular Meals on Wheels volunteer and serves as President of the Board of Directors for Rainbow Families DC. In his hometown of Hyattsville, he is an active community organizer who helped launch the city’s first Pride festival and organizes the townwide Vine Crawl.
Of all the things he has done, he is proudest of the family he has built with his husband Jamie, their son Malcolm, and two unruly dogs, Lily and Rose.
